Untrimmed beaver fur has long bristles with soft fur underneath. The process of trimming beaver fur reduces the longer bristles, leaving the soft under fur exposed. This Russian Hat has leather on the underside of the ear flaps. Many customers tell us that they don't often wear the earflaps down, so we save fur by using leather on the parts of the hat that aren't exposed (it also costs a lot less!).
